Particular projects

As part of the next generation of software application engineers, you will lead the design and development of high-quality, large scale enterprise cloud solutions, in an agile environment.

You will work with software architects, product managers, and other stakeholders to deliver products designed to meet the needs of today's large global businesses. Development is all done in the cloud, on a single code line, through a continuous development model.

The AppDev teamwork toward the design, development and delivery of Workday's suite of cloud products; HCM, Payroll, Recruitment, Learning, Finance and Supply Chain to name a few...

App Dev team is split across the 6 main product areas which include - Workforce Management (HCM, Payroll), Financials, Recruiting, Learning, Spend (Supply Chain) and HelpDesk

Duties and responsibilities

• Design and develop solutions for our Applications that operate at Enterprise grade performance, scalability and resilience.

• Provide Technical Leadership in a fast paced agile environment

• Drive the long term vision for the product area

• Write and maintain SOLID, robust, efficient and maintainable code using an OO framework and tools

• Write reliable unit, integration, and system level tests that will run on our CD pipeline.

• Mentor other team members through pairing, code reviews, design reviews, knowledge shares, hackathons, etc.

• Easily communicate complexity with Senior Leadership

• Cross Functional collaboration with other teams and their members

Team structure and job organization

Each area follows the same structure and is completely agile, so you will work within a scrum team, each scrum team has 6-8 people made up of engineers (levels from grad up to principal), QA and a Product Manager.

Product Managers deal directly with the customers and discuss requirements, they translate that back to Dev and QA. Developers are continuously designing and developing new features and improving existing features for the product area, QA are part of the dev function as we do all test driven development(TDD).

You will have daily stand ups with your team to discuss projects and workload and gain support when needed, you will have a weekly one to one with your direct manager so he/she can support you in every way possible to set you up for success in the role at the initial stages. Once you are up and running you will still talk about your day to day and workload but there will also be a strong emphasis on your career development, progression planning and goal setting.

Required IT stack (level/years)

• 5+ years experience with Web application development or SaaS (Software as a Service); UML is a plus.

• Senior or advanced level of object oriented design and development experience in object oriented language such as Java, C#, ...etc.

• You will previously have led the technical delivery of complex business functionality

• Intense mentoring experience

• Demonstrable understanding of Software Engineering Principles

• You possess a good understanding and appreciation of test automation principles.

• You have a strong understanding of performance engineering and performance testing principles.

Nice to have:

• Must be a collaborative team player with good verbal and written communication skills.You have strong experience with Integration technologies.

• Exposure to modern UI technologies such as React

• Team Leadership experience

• Passion for code quality

• Adapt and deliver on time working in a fast-paced environment

• Metadata-driven definitional development experience is a plus

• Passionate about building scalable, performant and highly resilient Enterprise Business Applications.
